Heedong Chae, Esq. – Partner/Patent Attorney
Heedong Chae is the CEO and founding partner of Lucem Law. He has extensive experience in the prosecution and litigation of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition. He is excellent in quickly mastering new technologies and developing strategies to position cases for success.
Mr. Chae has prosecuted numerous patent and trademark applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and represented clients in patent proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and in trademark proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also has had extensive experience in IP litigations, including federal court litigations and ITC proceedings, and he has prosecuted a lot of patents and trademarks in foreign countries as well. He has actively counseled clients on the development, protection and management of their intellectual property portfolios and avoidance of risk involving intellectual property rights.
Mr. Chae interned at Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP and worked at Park Law Firm as an associate. He joined East West Law Group after working at Morrison & Foerster LLP as a contract attorney for an ITC proceeding (Inv. No. 337-TA-798 Certain Light-Emitting Diodes and Products Containing Same), and then, he founded Lucem Law.
Mr. Chae graduated from Seoul National University with a B.S. in Architecture and an M.S. in Construction Engineering and Technology and received his J.D. degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in North Carolina. He also graduated from Chungbuk Science High School and worked at Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Inc. as an engineer. Additionally, he actively participated in Wake Forest IP Journal as a staff member. He is admitted to practice in the State of California and various United States District Courts, and he is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Karen Kim, Esq. – Senior Associate
Karen Kim is a Senior Associate at Lucem Law. Her practice focuses on trademark and copyright law – trademark prosecution, enforcement, and policing. She also has experience in patent, trademark and copyright litigation matters. Karen attended Southwestern Law School. While in law school, she received a CALI award in Sales.
She holds a master’s degree in education from Mills College and earned her undergraduate degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. She received her J.D. degree from Southwestern law school. She is admitted to practice in the State of California as well as the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
Rae Chung, Esq. – Associate
Rae Chung is an Associate at Lucem Law. Her practice focuses on trademark prosecution and enforcement, unfair competition, copyright, and patent and trademark litigation.
Rae received her J.D. law degree from UCLA School of Law, where she served as the Managing Editor of Women’s Law Journal and Asian Pacific American Law Journal. She was also a board member of the Asian Pacific Islander Law Student Association. She received her bachelor’s degree in Economics/Management Science from the University of California, San Diego.
Richard Kim, Esq. – Of Counsel
Richard Kim is an Of Counsel at Lucem Law. He has extensive experience in patent, trademark, civil, and business litigation. He has taken and defended numerous depositions and drafted and argued motions in Court. He has obtained numerous favorable results for his clients, including jury verdicts in favor of his clients.
He graduated from the University of California, San Diego and attended University of San Diego, School of Law. He is admitted to practice in the State of California, US District Court for the Central District of California and US District Court for the Northern District of California.
Byoung Taek Lee – Patent Agent
Byoung Taek Lee is a registered patent agent at Lucem Law. He is specialized in patent prosecution, technology and prior art analysis and litigation support. His expertise covers physics, electronics science, electrical engineering, computer science, telecommunication technology, mechanical engineering, smart phone related technologies, etc.
He graduated from University of Hannam in Korea with a B.S. in Physics and has worked in the software development industry for cell phones, smart phones and smart phone games.
Aerie Lin, Patent Agent/Ph.D./J.D.
Aerie Lin is a registered patent agent at Lucem Law and received a Ph.D. from New York University School of Medicine. He brings extensive research experience in molecular, cellular and neurobiology. He is specialized in patent prosecution and litigation support in several fields including pharmaceuticals, medical diagnostics and medical devices.
He graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Animal Physiology/Neuroscience, New York University School of Medicine with a Ph.D. in Molecular Neurobiology and received his J.D. degree from California Western School of Law.
Yejin Min – Technology Specialist
Yejin Min is a technical specialist at Lucem Law. She is specialized in patent preparation and prosecution – patent drafting, filing, argumentation of the response to office action, prior art search and technology analysis in a variety of fields, including chemistry, physics, biochemistry, physical chemistry, computer science, material science, etc. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a B.S. in Chemistry.
Lauren Jeong – Technology Specialist
Lauren Jeong is a technology specialist at Lucem Law. She is specialized in patent prosecution and patent litigation support – patent draft and prosecution, technology analysis, claim analysis, prior art searches, etc. Her expertise covers biochemistry, biology, chemistry, material science, medical science, mechanical engineering, cell biology, etc.
She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a B.S. in biochemistry. She is fluent in English and Korean.
