Heedong Chae is the CEO and founding partner of Lucem Law. He has extensive experience in all aspects of Intellectual Property (IP) law, concentrating his practice in procurement and enforcement of patent, trademark and copyright. He provides strategic guidance to his clients on obtaining and enforcing intellectual property portfolio for business development and growth and counseling for avoidance of legal risk involving intellectual property rights. He is excellent in quickly mastering new technologies and developing strategies to position cases for success.
Mr. Chae has prosecuted numerous patent and trademark applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and represented clients in patent proceedings – post-grant proceedings, Inter Partes Review, Reexaminations, Reissue, etc. – before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and in trademark proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He has helped clients obtaining patents and trademarks around the world as well.
Mr. Chae has extensive experience in litigation of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition. He has worked on a number of IP infringement matters and litigations, many of which have been litigated in both the federal courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. He worked on appeals to federal circuit courts. In addition, he has counseled his clients on enforcing patent, trademark, or copyright through online service providers or U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He earned a reputation for providing clients with favorable results and cost-effective solutions to protect or grow clients’ business.
Mr. Chae interned at Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP and worked at Park Law Firm as an associate. He joined East West Law Group after working at Morrison & Foerster LLP as a contract attorney for an ITC proceeding (Inv. No. 337-TA-798 Certain Light-Emitting Diodes and Products Containing Same), and then, he founded Lucem Law.
Mr. Chae graduated from Seoul National University with a B.S. in Architecture and an M.S. in Construction Engineering and Technology and received his J.D. degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in North Carolina where he served as a staff member for the Wake Forest IP Journal. He also graduated from Chungbuk Science High School and worked at Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Inc. as an engineer. He is admitted to practice in the State of California and various United States District Courts and Circuit Courts, and he is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

He graduated from University of Hannam in Korea with a B.S. in Physics and has worked in the software development industry for cell phones, smart phones and smart phone games.
Lauren Jeong is a registered patent agent at Lucem Law. She is specialized in patent prosecution and patent litigation support – patent draft and prosecution, technology analysis, claim analysis, prior art searches, etc. Her expertise covers biochemistry, biology, chemistry, material science, medical science, mechanical engineering, cell biology, etc.
